| Match Report: Tumble produced a sublime six try performance to demolish a physical Haverfordwest side who fancied their chances of creating an upset. Tumble from the outset showed intent to run with ball in hand and, with a solid platform in the scrum being given by props Kenny Jones and captain Alan King, scrum half Nick Bailey released a potent back line. Once again Hefin Dumbrill provided a masterclass in linesout jumping and fellow second row Jeremy Goddard also proved a handful. With Tumble pinning Haverfordwest in their own half for some ten minutes, a rumbling attack upfield by the home side to play to Tumble's 10 metre line. Haverfordwest were then dispossessed at the maul and, with the ball being swiftly spread wide, Cerith Humphries stretched his legs and ran in from halfway for the opening score. Humphries produced a polished display at outside half and kept his forwards happy with some astute kicks and breaks. The big Haverfordwest forwards were no match for an excellent back row of Magpies and Dominic Brettle, Gary Williams on the flanks won excellent ball in the loose. After another turnover for Tumble again near their own 10 metre line, winger Richard Rees outstripped the cover to take play into the home 22. A feature of the Magpies play was the fact that support was on hand and this time and this time, fellow wing Gareth Jones shipped the ball to centre Jeremy Davies who gave the scoring pass to his old workhorse centre James Plimmer who scored the try which Steven Hewitt converted. The growth in confidence was clear for all to see and, after 20 minutes, Tumble were again able to exploit turnover ball in their own 22. No. 8 Rhodri Jones was immense and play was taken upfield by Brettle and the alert Jeremy Davies looped to give the scoring pass this time to winger Richard Rees. His try was again converted by Hewitt who also added a penalty on the half hour following a penalty for stamping. Immediately from the restart, Rhodri Jones regathered and with the backs seeing spaces, Hewitt came into the line supported by Humphries who ghosted past defenders, and he turned provider for Jeremy Davies to score an unconverted try. Against a solid scrum and lineout Haverfordwest worked hard to gain territory. They eventually had two penalties which took play to 5 metres from Tumble's line, but they could not penetrate a drilled defence. Tumble were eventually penalised eight minutes into stoppage time when Brettle was somewhat harshly yellow carded for not binding at the scrum and Kelly scored a converted try under the posts. The Magpies produced more of the same in the second half. Hooker James Jones was a livewire in the loose and his pinpoint throwing enabled Dumbrill and Goddard to provide useful possession. Humphries kicked deep to the visitors 22 and, with Dumbrill winning the lineout with consummate ease, Humphries gliding through a non existent gap to score a mesmeric try which Hewitt converted. Richard Rees looked dangerous with ball in hand and ran from deep a number of times, but disaster struck Tumble when Brettle received his second yellow card, this time for stamping and left Tumble defending the last half hour with 14 men. They held out for twenty minutes but two late tries gave a semblance of respectability to the score. With the Magpies being awarded two penalties both for stamping neither of which saw yellow, the away supporters queried the inconsistencies applied by the referee. Tumble still had another score up their sleeve and, with Rhodri Jones being able to release Rees, a deft break by Davies enable Nick Bailey to score in the corner and Hewitt converted. Tumble had breathing space and, with fine replacements in Mike Harris, Mike Powell and Matthew Jones in the pack no further scores were conceded. Tumble can go with heart now into their next game against Trimsaran on 17th February.
