| Match Report: The Magpies soared to new heights with this comprehensive demolition of nearest rival Llangefni. In doing so, they wrap up the Division Three West title with this richly deserved win. Early exchanges were tense bearing in mind what was at stake and Tumble were happy to absorb pressure before dominating proceedings. Cerith Humphries at outside half produced some metronome kicking and this enabled his forwards to keep pressure on the visitors. The pack were lively throughout and, with Garry Williams signalling the Magpies intent with a bone jarring tackle, Llangefni knew they were in for a hard time. The visitors moved the ball well from the set piece but, with Jeremy Davies and James Plimmer dominating midfield, there was nowhere for Llangefni to go. Both full backs were involved in a kicking duel but Tumble's Hewitt opened the scoring after 11 minutes play with a penalty following excellent line out work from Hefin Dumbrill. This was to turn out Hewitt's most accomplished game and he ended up with 27 points. Tumble's forwards were absorbing the pressure and with Chris Morris leading by example aided by the rampaging Alan King at prop, it wasn't long before their lead was increased. Dumbrill was gaining ascendancy in the linesout but it was left to Morris to drive at the defence, Hewitt chipped ahead, wily winger Richard Rees re-gathered, broke the cover defence and Hewitt received the scoring pass for his own converted try. Stunned by this score, Cefni redoubled their efforts but Derek Lewis at No. 8 typified the resolve needed to thwart attack after attack. The Magpies were growing in confidence and, charging runs from Rhodri Jones and Lewis created problems in the visitors defence. Back came Llangefni with Ioan Davies and Dylan Jones making strong runs at Tumble's defence. They eventually gained territory in the home 22 but were only able to muster an unsuccessful attempted drop goal. The Magpies on the other hand were dangerous with ball in hand and a sweeping move upfield sawing Nicky Allinson take play to Llangefni's 22. Richard Rees received the ball and a mazy run left both visitors and spectators bemused and he cantered under the posts for a converted try. Two minutes later, Tumble added a second try when James Jones and fellow forwards Rhodri Jones and Garry Williams combined to release Hewitt for his converted try under the posts. With a 24-0 lead Tumble never rested on their laurels, scrum half Aled Evans grew in stature as the game went on and, he produced some telling kicks and breaks to keep Cefni on the back foot. To their credit Llangefni tried to compete but, with Dumbrill and Jones winning line out ball coupled with the foraging of bulky prop Kenny Jones, they couldn't break the defence. Some power play from hooker James Jones signalled Tumble's intent and it was now that the forwards took control. Young prop Alan King tore at the defence and, with legs pumping was able to set up Derek Lewis to take the ball forward. Cerith Humphries put in the usual raking touchfinder and Tumble were back on the offensive. Aled Evans harried at the scrum and, with Derek Lewis again driving hard at the visitors, Richard Rees tried to chip ahead. His kick was safely gathered by Llangefni's Llyr Hughes but his wild pass left namesake full back Llyr Hughes at sea and Rees grabbed his second converted try. The changes were rung and Tumble still looked for more. Flanker Paul Davies was rocklike in defence and, with Matthew Evans and Mike Powell adding pace up front, further tries were on the cards. Dumbrill won a lineout, King made his trademark run, Matthew Lemon put the ball in the corner. Tumble pinched the lineout and Allinson beat two defenders from halfway to score wide out. Hewitt converted. Champagne rugby was the order of the day for the last quarter and this was typified when flanker Rhodri Jones picked up an ill directed kick on his own 10 metre line. With steely intent he sided stepped the on rushing defence and fleet footedly ran 60 metres to score under the posts. Hewitt again obliged with the extras. The game was now over, but captain Lewis typified Tumble's attitude this season with a jarring tackle on his opposite number. This shook Llangefni and with the reliable boot of Magpies Humphries taking play deep into the visitors 22, Llangefni scrambled the ball to touch. Hefin Dumbrill won the line out and Mike Powell's rampaging run left defenders clutching at fresh air and he scored under the posts. Hewitt converted. Coaches Paul Davies, Richard Rees and James Jones have given direction to a promising side but Rees says they still need to step up a level and are capable of doing so. They end their league campaign with a home game next week against Pembroke Dock followed by the Tovali Bowl final against Mumbles. Steve Lewis
