| Match Report: Tumble produced a scintillating second half performance to destroy a hapless Pontarddulais in this nine try romp to keep up the pressure against leaders Aberystwyth. Playing with the wind at their backs, the Magpies quickly got into their stride and used the elements to good advantage. Hefin Dumbrill won sufficient line out ball to enable scrum half Aled Evans to release his backs. Full back Steven Hewitt and Cerith Humphries at outside half put in some astute kicks and, from a Tumble line out deep in home territory, Dumbrill soared high, was driven towards the line by Rhodri Jones. The ball was slipped to Nicky Allinson and captain Derek Lewis was on hand to crash over for a try after 5 minutes. The Magpies extended their lead two minutes later when, following a break from the quick silver Humphries, wing Allinson was on hand to receive the scoring pass for the first of his three tries. Hewitt made it 13-0 to the visitors when he slotted a penalty shortly thereafter. Derek Lewis had several bullocking runs at the Pontarddulais defence and, with Dumbrill winning the opposition ball at will in the linesout, Bont were under pressure. When they did make incursions into the visitors 22, Chris Morris and James Jones stifled these attacks and countered efficiently. From one of these attacks, all backs handled tacking play into the home team's half and, with James Jones linking with Humphries, he fed Rhodri Jones and flanker Paul Davies glided through two tackles for the score. Any attempt to counter by Pontarddulais saw them up against some ferocious defence and, with props Matthew Evans, playing his first senior game for Tumble, and Clive Morgan looking solid at the set scrum, the home team were starved of possession. Just on the stroke of halftime, Humphries made a break on his own 10 metre line, fed mercurial wing Aled Griffiths who scampered upfield. Tackled in the 22, centre Jeremy Davies was on hand to feed Hewitt and his pass released Allinson for a score which Hewitt converted. Tumble were looking comfortable with a 0-25 lead. Any thoughts that Tumble had of sitting on this lead was dispelled at the outset. Hefin Dumbrill gathered the kick off and tore through the midfield to the home team's 22, Allinson linked with Jeremy Davies. The visitors had a penalty, kicked for position and, with Dumbrill soaring high, his feed to Derek Lewis gave him his second try. The Magpies then rang the changes and brought on able replacements in Mike Powell and Gary Williams. Pontarddulais, then had a 10 minute spell of pressure which resulted in flanker Hire scoring a converted try. Tumble then regathered the ball through Aled Evans and his run was supported by Humphries, Davies and Allison. Tumble won a penalty and Hewitt converted some 15 metres out in front of the posts. The restart saw Rhodri Jones regather, drive upfield and link with Jeremy Davies, the support play was there through the wily Chris Morris and he slipped the ball to Nicky Allinson who cantered over unopposed. Not to be outdone by the forwards, centres Davies and Plimmer showed deft touches in midfield and, with excellent support work for the ball carrier, Tumble showed some silky skills. Hewitt broke in midfield, Allinson was in support and a looped move with Griffiths, gave hooker Mike Powell the score which Hewitt converted. Hewitt also kicked a penalty. Tumble were now rampant and, running the ball from deep in their own 22, made ground into home territory. A break then by Davies was supported by Plimmer and the feed to live wire flanker Rhodri Jones saw him sell a huge dummy to score a try which Hewitt converted. They repeated this tactic on the stroke of full time enabling Jones to get his second and the final score of an entertaining game. Tumble must not rest on their laurels as they face a tricky home game next week against Newcastle Emlyn who are looking for the double over the Magpies.
