Match Report:

Tumble completed the double over their lowly visitors in this lacklustre performance. Trimsaran came with the intent to spoil and this they did admirably despite a succession of penalties being conceded. The Magpies pack was a little rusty during the first quarter and this, aided by some illegal play in ruck and maul by their visitors, led to Steven Hewitt kicking a penalty after nine minutes play. Rhodri Jones was solid with ball in hand from the no. 8 position but too often his breaks and those of flankers Dominic Brettle and Garry Williams were not supported at the breakdown and promising moves were stemmed early as a result.

In the linesout, Hefin Dumbrill was again providing a stream of good ball from the pinpoint accuracy of hooker James Jones, but still Tumble couldn't penetrate a well organised defence. Hewitt called for a mark in his own 22 and scampered upfield to the visitors 22. A speculative hoof upfield by Trimsaran saw Tumble knock on and, with Trim's forwards regaining possession, the ball went wide for Phillip Griffiths to latch on to the scoring pass, Tumble found themselves behind. The Magpies did well to keep their composure despite having to play a stop start game cause by constant infringements by the Trimsaran forwards. Tumble's front row of Matthew Evans, Jones and Clive Morgan were beginning to create problems and, with ball being secured, stalwart scrum half Nick Bailey made an incisive break into the visitors 22. Trimsaran infringed and prop Francis was yellow carded. Tumble pressed hard for the try and Chris Morris went close but after holding out for five passages of play, Trimsaran again transgressed and this time outside half Peter Jones had a yellow. Tumble won the lineout from the ensuing penalty and were able to drive over for a try by Garry Williams, Hewitt added the extras.

Ball was now coming freely and Richard Rees looked sharp on the wing. Centre Jeremy Davies was occasionally guilty of picking the wrong option, but was solid throughout in defence. With the referee playing some eight minutes of stoppage time, Trimsaran scored their second try when Tumble were isolated in midfield. Their backs charged upfield in support and, with the defence split, winger Tom Bonnell scored wide out.

Tumble replaced their props and Alan King showed a sprightly pair of heels with ball in hand. Again, Dumbrill was winning ball with ease and, from a linesout in the visitor's 22, Jeremy Davies made the break in midfield for outside half Cerith Humphries to score the converted try. Rhodri Jones ran the ball back from the restart and with Gareth Jones in support, made good metres into Trimsaran territory. They were penalised and up stepped Hewitt to kick his second penalty.

The visitors were now a beaten side and a marauding run by Brettle saw Garry Williams on hand to take play to half way, up charged King who drove to the 10 metre line but he was isolated. Back came Trimsaran but they were unable to penetrate a solid defence. With Trimsaran's backs rushing up onto Hewitt, his deft kick over the attackers gave diminutive winger Gareth Jones the chance to hack the ball and dive over for a score in the corner. Scraps were all that Trimsaran had to live on but, with the introduction of winger Deiniol Evans, they did look dangerous on the counter. Tumble reshuffled when Allinson came on and, with James Plimmer moving to no. 10, his kick took play deep into the visitors 22. Tumble were awarded a penalty, Dumbrill drove at the defence and, with forwards in support, the maul went over for a delighted Kenny Jones to score the final try.

A competent performance but they must step up several gears as their next game is away to Llanelli Wanderers following the next round of international fixtures.
