CLUB HISTORY

Tumble Rugby Club were the most successful rugby team in West Wales, and are still highly regarded for all that they achieved. Their peak success was during the Eighties where they managed the feat of winning the President Cup eight times, the Champion Cup four times and were awarded the West Wales Championship three times. But rugby was being played in Tumble almost a whole century before that time.

The club first won the Challenge Cup in 1933, and regained ownership of the trophy for a further three years. Then, in 1937, they were crowned West Wales Champions.

After the war they won the Challenge Cup again, regaining control of it for a further year. And then again won the Championship in 1949.

During the next three decades their success waned a little. They won only two of the Challenge Cups in the year's 1963 and 1972. Then came the decade of the Eighties - the best time for Tumble to date. In 1984 they were once again crowned West Wales Champions, a title they reclaimed the following year, along with the Challenge Cup. They held onto that cup for a further four years and in 1988 they won the Championship one last time.

By the time the mid-nineties hit Tumble were well on their way to repeating another successful decade of work. In 1994 they gained Heineken League status. The following year they won the Challenge cup for the twelfth. Also claiming ownership of the Presidents Cup for no less than the eighth time in the Club's history.

In 1996/7 the club celebrated their centenary.
